Ayurvedic Name: Laung , Lavang Lavanga, Charaka, Sushruta, Devakusum, Chandanpushpaka, Shrisangya, Shriprasuunak,Shriprasuuna, Vaarija.

Botanical Name: Syzygium aromaticum

English: Clove

Family: Myrtaceae

Physical Properties:
Clove is the dried unopened flower bud obtained from an evergreen tree which grows up to 10-13 meters.

Habitat:
Cultivated in South India, mainly Kerala.
Native to the Malacca islands

Action:
antiinflammatory, Carminative,antibacterial.
Flower buds— Stimulant, Antiemetic, Carminative. Used in gastric, dyspepsia, irritation.

Oile used as a local analgesic for hypersensitive dent lines and carious cavaties, internally as a carminative and antispasmodic


Ayurvedic benefits:
1) Clove has stimulating properties, it regulates blood circulation.

2) Cloves are extremely useful in cases of gastric irritability and dyspepsia.

3) Chewing a clove with a crystal on common salt eases expectoration and soothes the throat.

4) Powder of fired cloves when mixed with a spoon of honey and consumed is very effective in controlling vomiting.

5) 2-4 drops of clove oil + Spoonful of honey + a clove of garlic, help in soothing spasmodic coughs in Asthma and Bronchitis. (Before sleeping)

7) Clove is a very effective remedy for asthma. Boil 6-7 cloves in a cup of water, add a spoonful of honey. Consume 2-3 times daily.

8) In Bad Breath & Toothache: Clove is an extremely effective mouth freshener. Chewing a single clove will cure bad breath and clove oil when applied to a tooth cavity in a decayed tooth relieves toothache.
