Ayurvedic Medicine - Turmeric



Ayurvedic Name: Haldi / Halad

Botanical Name: Curcuma longa

English : Turmeric

Physical Properties:
Turmeric is a perennial herb.Its underground stems are boiled, dried and then powdered to obtain turmeric that is used for cooking by human beings.
It is also used as a spice-herb in India.

Habitat:
Turmeric is native to southern and south-eastern Asia. It is one of The Most Important herb in Ayurveda.

Ayurvedic benefits:

1) Turmeric has a number of medicinal uses. It is used for arresting blood flow from a wound to relieving flatulence and is extensively used in Ayurveda.

2) In Treating Boils: Paste prepared by mixing turmeric powder and a few drops of rose water or plane water and when applied to boils, help in speeding up the curing process.

3) Intestinal Worms: Mix few drops of juice of raw turmeric with a pinch of salt and drink early in the morning to expel worms. It is very effective.

4) For Asthma: It is an effective household remedy for bronchial asthma. It can be cure by adding a teaspoon of turmeric power to a small glass of warm milk, and drinking it twice or thrice a day.

5) Anemia: Turmeric is very rich in Iron which is used to treat anemia. If a spoonful of raw turmeric juice mixed with a teaspoon of honey and taken every morning before breakfast provides an excellent cure for anemia.

6) Skin Disorders: For skin disease like ringworm and eczema it works like a magic.
